USING THE VADDIO SWTICHER

All Vaddio Switchers operate the same - model does not matter.

The Vaddio Switcher has three (3) cameras connected to it. They are represented by buttons 1, 2 and 3. The PREVIEW BANK (lower set of numbered buttons) will change the view in the PREVIEW screen on the Teletouch Monitor.

The PROGRAM BANK (upper set of numbered buttons) shows which camera is currently “LIVE,” or is what is being recorded on the ATMOS Drive.

To get a camera view from PREVIEW into PROGRAM, simply press the corresponding camera button in the PREVIEW BANK and press the TAKE button. This will send that camera to the PROGRAM Bank, and thus will be recorded.

Using the Switcher – Notes

Regular procedure of using the switcher would follow from having camera presets set, and then pressing the camera button that you wish to go to in the PREVIEW BANK, then going to the Camera Presets and selecting the Preset location that you want by pushing the corresponding button. The button will flash until the camera has moved itself to the preset location. When the preset button is finished flashing, you can press the TAKE button to go to that camera. The Teletouch screen will show the TAKE as a cut, the ATMOS Monitor will show the Effect that you have selected. In using the TAKE button, it takes roughly one (1) to two (2) seconds for the camera to go from Preview to Program. If you are seeking a faster way to go to the camera, push the camera button corresponding to the camera you want directly in the PROGRAM BANK. This will show as a Direct CUT – No Effect will take place. BE SURE TO SETUP THE CAMERA IN PREVIEW FIRST

DISSOLVES AND WIPES

The TAKE Button, as previously mentioned will ‘move’ the camera from the PREVIEW BANK to the PROGRAM BANK.

In the DEFAULT Setting, the TAKE Button will do CUTS from camera to camera.

Dissolves

You can also choose to do DISSOLVES (MIX) AND WIPES. To do a DISSOLVE (MIX), simply press the MIX/FTB button so it is highlighted and then using the TRANSITION SPEED Knob/Dial, you can set the length of the DISSOLVE from 0.01 seconds up to 4 seconds. Once set, simply push the TAKE Button. The Effect WILL NOT SHOW on the Teletouch Monitor, IT WILL ONLY SHOW ON THE ATMOS DRIVE. Which is why it is important to have the MONITOR (MON) button turned on when Recording.

Wipes

Similar to setting up a DISSOLVE (MIX), Press the WIPE Button. With the TRANSITION SPEED Knob/Dial, you can set the length of the DISSOLVE from 0.01 seconds up to 4 seconds. The WIPE PATTERNS are found directly above the TRANSITION BANK, the Black boxes show from which side the wipe will begin.

When ready to make your wipe go, simply press the TAKE BUTTON.

SETTING A CAMERA PRESET

Cameras also have the ability to have preset locations. These can be found in the CAMERA SELECT BANK.

To setup a preset location for a camera:

  1. Hold down the camera button (in the Camera Select Bank) of the corresponding camera number which you want to setup, until it starts to flash.
    1. The numbered buttons in the CAMERA PRESETS area will either Flash Blue (in a cycle) or stay Solid Blue.
    2. FLASHING = Open Camera Preset Button
    3. SOLID = Has a Camera Preset
  2. Using the joystick, move the camera to the position which you want to save:
    1. Left = Camera moves Left
    2. Right = Camera moves Right
    3. Twist = Camera Zooms In/Out
  3. Press and HOLD the numbered button of the CAMERA PRESET that you want to use for your new location. The button will flash, once it has stopped flashing you can stop holding the button down.
    1. If you wish to set more presets for the same camera, you may do so now by following from step 2.
    2. If you are done creating presets for the camera you are working with, goto step 4.
  4. To SAVE and close out of the CREATE PRESET Function, Press the camera numbered button (of the camera you are working on) in the CAMERA SELECT bank.
    1. You may now continue to setup Camera Presets for another camera, by following from step 1.

MANUAL CONTROL OF CAMERA

Cameras can also be manually moved using the JOYSTICK. Whichever camera is selected in the PREVIEW BANK will be the one that is currently controlled by the JOYSTICK.

Camera Manual Control – Pan, Tilt, Zoom

Just above the CAMERA JOYSTICK are the camera function control knobs.

The three (3) knobs each control respectively the Pan, Tilt, and Zoom speed for the camera currently selected in the PREVIEW BANK. Turning a knob to the RIGHT will SPEED UP the motion for the Pan, Tilt, or Zoom. Turning a knob to the LEFT with SLOW DOWN the motion for the Pan, Tilt, or Zoom. While not advised (at least until you have a better control over the Camera Joystick), you can move a camera once it is in the PROGRAM BANK. To do this, simply put the camera that is currently in the PROGRAM BANK, also in the PREVIEW BANK, then proceed with your motion of the camera.
